Madpotters: From Concrete Jungles to Soulful Shelves

What began as a way to survive the emotional grind of NYC life has evolved into a heartfelt creative journey rooted in community, color, and connection. For Christie, founder of Madpotters, art didn’t just start with inspiration—it began with stress, anger, and a desperate need to let it out. “I needed a creative outlet to channel all the negative energy that I kept pent up inside,” she shared. Surrounded by concrete buildings, overwhelmed by the subway, she found peace by being on the floor, hands dirty, creating something real.

That pivotal moment came when she brought her first handmade concrete pots into work—only to have a coworker mistake them for designer pieces from West Elm. “That’s when I realized I was on to something.”

Now based in San Diego, surrounded by the grounding presence of nature, Christie's artistry has evolved into something vibrant and healing. Working with Jesmonite, incorporating woman-made crystals, and serving the plant-loving community, creativity has become a bridge between expression and connection. “Art and creating still keep my anxiety low, but it’s now more about connecting with people through the plant community that keeps me focused and motivated.”

Every sale still feels like a little spark of magic. “It never gets old,” she said. “When someone chooses Madpotters, it reaffirms that others see value in me and my work.”

But the journey hasn’t been without its challenges. Imposter syndrome, self-doubt, and the unpredictable rhythm of creative work are all real. “Some days are not creative days—and forcing it just creates a mess,” Christie admitted. Yet what helps her through are those core friendships—fellow artists turned confidants—and the customers who share photos and words of love when it’s needed most.

Her advice to anyone looking to make a similar leap? “Make sure you're in a good position financially... It takes a lot of planning to have the freedom to create. That being said—go for it. Life is too short not to tap into your creative side. You won’t get rich overnight, but you’ll be rich in ways that go beyond dollars and cents.”

As she explores how to scale without sacrificing balance, Christie continues to push creative boundaries with heart and intention.

And when asked what No New Friends means to her, she offered this gem:
“New relationships have to feel like we’ve already known each other for ages—comfortable in silence, and in the journey together. No pressure, no pretense, just real connection.”
